Artist: Gotye
Year: 2011
Genre: Indie Rock
- Large, prominent geometrical watercolour painting, provides repeated theme for rest of album art and coincides with all of Gotye's previous album covers/themes
- Artwork reflects theme of 'Making Mirrors'- symmetrical and geometrical shapes
- Background has the appearance of vellum, hinting to a bygone era, historical?
- Colours alternate between strong/vibrant and subdued/washed-out
- Name of artist does not take centre stage, added as almost an afterthought, conforming to indie conventions
- Also conforming- painting made by Gotye, does not feature his, or anyone-elses face, as is common in most mainstream album art
- Same background as the font, vellum -like
- Similar cursive script- makes it appear like handwriting
- Tracklist ordered to the centre, with each new word capitalized, numbers for the tracks are not given
- Lots of space given, nothing detracting from the printed words
- Barcode, record label
- The digipak booklet and CD skin bear the same watercolour pattern as the album art
- Booklet contains lyrics, with each page continuing the geometric pattern, but only in one colour, either green, blue, purple or orange.
- All made from recycled paper- artist has stated cares about environment
- CD and booklet in separate paper pockets
- No artist image, wants people to focus on his music rather than him as a persona
- Centerfold of digipak echoes other pattern, but is subtly different
- Colours are darker and more ominous, actual tint is limited to green and blue/purple with washed-out orange
- Pattern is asymmetrical, appears more sinister, emphasis on spikes and sharp edges
- Perhaps a reflection of the darker tone of some of his songs?
- All panels are relevant and cohesive together, make sense
- Artist's face does not appear once in the whole album
